It takes about 60 seconds. You've thought about bilingual education. Maybe you speak another language at home and want your child to hold onto it. Maybe you don't, and you want to give your child an advantage you didn't have. Either way, you've noticed that most schools treat a second language as something that happens in 30-minute blocks twice a week, taught by a specialist your child sees less often than the music teacher. That's not how language sticks. What bilingual instruction actually looks like here
It's not a separate class. Bilingual learning at West Park is woven into daily instruction across subjects. Reading, math, science, and social studies all incorporate bilingual teaching methods. Students build vocabulary, comprehension, and fluency in two languages at the same time, in the context of real academic work. By the time a student reaches 8th grade, he or she has spent nine years building a skill that most adults wish they had started younger.Small school, real relationships
West Park is small enough that your child won't get lost. Teachers know each student, and the staff actually know what's going on with each student. Social-emotional learning is built into daily activities. On-site counseling through Families First provides additional support when students need it.Before and After-school coverage for working families
Before care runs from 6:30 to the start of school. School ends at 3:30 p.m. Aftercare runs until 5:30 p.m. After-school tutoring is available for students who need academic support. After-school meals are provided through the Cleveland Food Bank. If you need your child in a safe, structured place until you get off work, the school has it covered.Connecting learning to the real world
Students take two to three field trips per year. Destinations include the Cleveland Zoo, Mapleside Farms, the Children's Museum, and the Cleveland Museum of Art. For 8th graders, high school visits help them see where they're headed next. These aren't reward trips. They're extensions of what students are learning in the classroom.Everything you just read?
